Peter lived, worked, and played rugby in Sonoma County from the mid-1970's until his unexpected death in 1997. He actively participated in the community he loved and served on many community projects. Talented in many areas, Peter was an entrepreneur, rugby champion, musician, sailor, poet, philosopher, and educator. Peter approached all his endeavors with passion and vigor.
Peter began his 30-year rugby career in 1966 at Chico State University. Joining Santa Rosa Rugby Club in 1980, he served as president from 1981-1982. Peter coached the club from 1993-1994, leading it to back to back Division II National Championships. According to Peter, "rugby combines athletic skill with courage and a general love for being alive."
For Pete's Sake was founded to memorialize the spirit of Peter Eiermann and in 2005 this vision has been realized. The new playing field on the grounds of Northwest Community Park in Santa Rosa, California is dedicated in Peter's memory to "Building Community through the Spirit of Sportsmanship."
